Will of Dr William I Wheeler

The newspaper report of the details of William Ireland Wheeler’s will gives valuable information. He left his Robertstown estate to his son Harry and his Annsborough estate to his son Gerry.

Will of Dr. William I Wheeler. By his will of the 23rd April, 1897, Dr. William Ireland Wheeler, of Kildare, and of 32 Merrion square, Dublin, surgeon, who died on the ‘25th November last, bequeathed his grandfather’s pistols to his sons, Harry and Jerry, one pair to each, and by codicil of the 13th November last he bequeathed £1,000 to apply the income thereof, at the discretion of the trustees, for the benefit of his son Jerry, then on his way as a lieutenant in the Royal Dublin Fusiliers to South Africa. He bequeathed to bis niece, Mabel Frances Shaw the income for life of £1,000; to Annie Paget, for her kindness during his illness, £500 and sixteen shares in The Dublin Nursing Institution; to Mrs Kildare Tracey £50, and to Georgina Williams £3, subject to Mrs Wheeler’s life use thereof. He bequeathed to Mrs Wheeler also the household effects at 32 Merrion Square, his riding and driving horses, carriages, and cars, and the income during her life of his residuary estate, for the maintenance herself and of his sons whilst under 21 years and of his daughters whilst unmarried, but last in the abundance of her love for the children she should be moved to deal more generously with them than he would for her sake and theirs have desired, he made it a condition that she should retain a minimum sum of £300 a year for herself. He left his 600 acres of land in Texas to his six sons, and subject to Mrs Wheeler’s life interest. He left the Robertstown estate to his son Harry; the Annsborough estate to his son Jerry: his property in Edenvale and Dame street, Dublin, and in Cork, to his sons Robert and Horatio; £2,000 to his son George, £500 and his medical books to his son William; and to each of his daughters, Williamsey and Hilaire and Frances Guinevere, shares in Guinness, Son, and Co., Ltd., of the value of £3,000. Dr. Wheeler left the residue of his property in trust in equal shares for his children. His estate has been valued at £27,089 8s 9d., including £15,768 15s in England.
